About Us

Juniper Natural Therapies was founded by George McBurney in 2010 as an ‘Animal Behaviour and Health’ business based in Dorset then called Juniper Animals.  The direction of the business became more focused on emotional health and well-being rather than behavioural training – if you feel you need behavioural advice/training the Association of Pet Behavioural Counsellors (APBC) is a good place to start for qualified practitioners in your area (in the UK).  In 2013 the business expanded to include therapies for people as often animal allies would reflect what was going on for their human. Juniper was closed for a few years due to family illness in 2014, and reopened in 2017 with a relocation to Glastonbury, Somerset and the welcomed addition of healing therapist Livvy Adams who founded Paintedhorse an Equine ReWilding business.  They both run a combination of healing and learning experiences between the two businesses.

George graduated from Plymouth University in 2007 with BSc (Hons) in Animal Science (Behaviour & Welfare) after careers in the Army and police. During university she volunteered for the RSPCA (domestic and wildlife), Bat Conservation Society and became a Marine Mammal Medic for the BDMLR. George graduated from Exeter University with a PGCE in Secondary Biology in 2008 and taught in various secondary schools before going on to lecture at university level. George wrote a new BTEC in Equine Management for Kingston Maurward College where she was a Programme Leader.  The BTEC including introducing Monty Roberts Horsemanship within a traditional equine establishment.

George set up an animal behaviour business in 2010, but after studying Zoopharmacognosy and Essential Oil Therapy began to focus more on the emotional well-being side to behaviour. After studying both kinesiology and Reiki, George expanded to include healing for people as their animal often reflected their ‘owners’ issues and renamed the business Juniper Natural Therapies so people without animals felt it was for them too.

George realised the healing impact of horses whilst going through the process of fostering her niece who was aged 10.  She observed her nieces emotional resilience after spending time with horses at the weekends.  A Welsh-Arab called Jac became their first pony and he went on to have a very significant role in supporting her through paralysis to recovery.  George began training as a Therapeutic Counsellor (CPCAB) specialising in Person Centred, Transactional Analysis and Gestalt Therapy and became a an honorary counsellor for NHS Steps to Well-being.  At a talk for counsellors she met Josephine Sellers who reflected her own time as an Equine Therapist, this inspired George further and in 2016 she went onto qualify as a LEAP practitioner in Equine Facilitated Learning (EFL) where she met Livvy.  After her fostering role came to an unexpected end, George and Jac moved to Glastonbury in April 2017 to start over with the Paintedhorse team.

Livvy Adams:

The upward curve of wishing to gain knowledge and understanding with Livvy never an end.  Further training with Leanna Millward of Flying with Horses followed during which time Livvy established her first business ‘Horse Synergy’ was born, which offered a combination of equine experiential learning and spiritual horsemanship.  From her time spent in the police force, witnessing the worst depths of the human condition and her knowledge of the healing power of the horse, it was a natural progression to combine the two.  Livvy continued her equine therapy training and became certified with LEAP in 2016 as an Equine Facilitated Learning Practitioner. At this point, with her growing herd of ponies and horses who all have their own stories and to reflect its evolution Livvy renamed her business ‘Paintedhorse’.

Livvy offers a number of other healing practices such as Reiki, Intuitive Healing, Crystal Healing for horses and other animals, and current training with the Goddess Temple as a Priestess of Cerridwen to offer a ‘listening ear’ for people in the future.  She will also help animals to cross over and help support people with this process.
